Major Duties of Each Office
All officers are expected to cooperate among themselves and other Executive Board members, to keep in regular contact with the State Chairpersons and the other officers, and to report names of perspective NJ-JCL members to the Membership Chairperson
Consul
Elected chairperson of the NJ-JCL state executive board who directs the course of discussion, and runs the meetings
Elected officer of the NJ-JCL state executive board who directs all business between other organizations, assumes charge of planning and conducting community service events
Elected officer in charge of handling all communication between the membership and the Executive Board members. And keeping list of all school contact emails and teachers
Elected officer in charge of keeping and recording detailed notes during each NJ-JCL state executive board meeting and sending these out immediately to each officer and chairperson after
Elected officer in charge of maintaining the constitution, revising, creating, enacting current or new by-laws, legislation and ensuring parliamentary procedure
Elected officer in charge of maintaining organization history and creating State scrapbook (recommend two historians from the same school)
The positions below will be appointed by the newly elected Consul after this year’s state convention.
The following duties relate to the Nuntius Co-Editors:

Consul
Elected chairperson of the NJ-JCL state executive board who directs the course of discussion, and runs the meetings
- Preside at all meetings and run all meetings
- Prepares the agendas for all meetings.
- Appoint Chairpersons for the offices of Publicity, Membership, Contest Coordinating, Fundraising, Webmaster, the Nuntius Editors, and Northern, Central, and Southern Registrars.
Elected officer of the NJ-JCL state executive board who directs all business between other organizations, assumes charge of planning and conducting community service events
- See that the State fulfills its obligations to the National Junior Classical League and remains in contact with its and the other JCL states.
- Take charge of all business between State and National Organizations
- Assist the Consul in all their undertakings and be ready to assume charge in their absence.
- Supervise and direct any community service event relevant to the NJ-JCL
Elected officer in charge of handling all communication between the membership and the Executive Board members. And keeping list of all school contact emails and teachers
- See that each member of the Executive Board remains in regular contact with other members and chapters
- Send a list of all names and addresses of the Executive Board to each Board member at the earliest possible date following the Convention.
- Send an up-to-date list of chapters with addresses and sponsors’ names to each chapter by the date appointed by the Executive Board
Elected officer in charge of keeping and recording detailed notes during each NJ-JCL state executive board meeting and sending these out immediately to each officer and chairperson after
- Record detailed minutes of all meetings
- Make copies and send them immediately to each officer and chairperson.
Elected officer in charge of maintaining the constitution, revising, creating, enacting current or new by-laws, legislation and ensuring parliamentary procedure
- Study Robert’s Rules of Order
- Supervise elections at the Convention
- Make available the application forms for State Office
- See that the Constitution is understood, followed, and kept-up-to-date.
- Take charge of any minor constitutional revision program.
Elected officer in charge of maintaining organization history and creating State scrapbook (recommend two historians from the same school)
- Solicit and collect materials for the State Scrapbook through regular contacts with the state Executive Board and the membership
- Organize and arrange all material for the scrapbook
The positions below will be appointed by the newly elected Consul after this year’s state convention.
The following duties relate to the Nuntius Co-Editors:
- Keep officers and Chairpersons informed about the times of publication
- Create at least two issues per year
- Maintain contact with the New Jersey Classical Association
- Be responsible for Convention publicity
- Promote Latin and the JCL among member schools
- Make attempt to receive coverage of NJ-JCL events in local and statewide newspapers.
- Post to and maintain social media accounts
- Contact all member schools and keep accurate records of these schools and the names of their sponsors
- Increase membership by contacting possible new chapters.
- Record attendance of all chapters at all meetings and at the Convention
- Keep cumulative statistics on the attendance of each chapter at all Executive Board and Regional Meetings and at the Convention
- Organize Regional Meetings, of which there shall be a minimum of one per year..
- Devise possible methods of raising money for NJ-JCL
- Take charge of all fundraising activities.
- Share financial statements with the Board.
- Maintain the NJ-JCL webpage
- Assist in the application of technology aspects of the NJ-JCL
- Act as an advisor on technological matters to any NJ-JCL officers.
- Maintain contact with the other state JCL organizations
- Maintain contact with the NSCL and it’s membership
- Organize events with other classical organizations
